Singer Emily heads for Texas!
Haworth teenager Emily Sargant headed for a Texas music festival in March after realising her musical dream. Emily has earned a great reputation for herself in recent times.A singer and songwriter in the style of Leddra Chapman and Ed Sheeran, she began playing when she was 14 and has gone on to play over 30 live gigs in her first year.Along with 19-year-old Jasmine Kennedy from Batley, she will appear at next month's South by Southwest (SXSW) festival and is over the moon.Currently finishing her GCSEs, Emily has a regular following in and around Haworth and is hoping to go to music college next year.Jasmine won the unsigned artists contest to appear at Bingley Live in 2010 and has since gone on to take part in the three-day Limetree Music & Arts Festival. Keen to promote their music to a wider audience and to broaden contacts and experience in the music world, Jasmine and Emily were offered sponsorship to attend the Texan music jamboree from NorthWest by North (NWXN), a support group which provides information, advice, mentoring and assistance to young singer-songwriters in the region.Visit Emily's own web site HERE and listen to her below. Bronte Radio from Bronte Media
and Voice of the Valleys
Here we are!
It is entirely fitting that we launch Bronte Radio to cover an event which truly embodied the heart of the community which we will be seeking to inform and entertain of events and features across the Worth and Aire Valleys and beyond.
Just a year to the day after the tragic death of Private Martin Bell GM, a former Police Community Support Officer in the Worth Valley, a plaque was unveiled in his honour outside the Worth Valley Contact Point in Haworth.
Martin died to save the life of a colleague who, despite having lost his legs, stood bravely along with a company of paratroopers in Haworth as Martin's mother, Elaine, unveiled the plaque in front of hundreds of people including the Chief Constable of West Yorkshire, Sir Norman Bettison. Afterwards Sir Norman spoke warmly of the community spirit and warmth which he had seen on the day.
So we begin Bronte Radio's coverage of the community by paying tribute to one who served it and lost his life in Afghanistan and then returned to the very heart of where it all began. Join us in saluting a great man of Worth and a hero come home. Private Martin Bell G.M.

Over 40 years ago The Railway Children theme music was recorded by evergreen singer Vince Hill. "More than Ever Now" is a lyric perhaps very appropriate to what was in the hearts of many at this event.
RIP Private Martin Bell G.M. |
